About Hormone Replacement Therapy

What Is Bioidentical Hormone Therapy?

Bioidentical hormones are plant-derived compounds engineered to match the molecular structure of the hormones your body naturally produces. This close match leads to better absorption, fewer side effects, and more stable hormone levels—unlike synthetic hormones, which may not align with your body’s chemistry.

About Hormone Replacement Therapy

How it Works

Our approach includes the following:

  • Comprehensive Consultation & Lab Testing
We begin with a detailed health and symptom assessment, alongside lab panels that include tests like TSH, free T3, free T4, estradiol, testosterone, DHEA, cortisol, and more.
  • Personalized Hormone Plan
Based on your labs, symptoms, and lifestyle, we design a tailored regime, determining which hormones and doses are right for you.
  • Pellet Insertion Procedure
Tiny pellets (about the size of a rice grain) are placed under the skin (typically in the hip or gluteal area). The insertion is quick, done under local anesthesia, and causes minimal discomfort.
  • Steady Release & Monitoring
Pellets gradually dissolve, releasing hormones consistently over several months. We follow up with lab checks and symptom reviews to adjust as needed.

Safety, Risks & Considerations

FAQ's

Are hormone pellets safe?

Yes—pellet therapy has been used for many decades and is considered a safe delivery method when done properly. Common side effects are typically mild and include slight bleeding, bruising, or redness at the insertion site. Pellet extrusion (the pellet pushing out) is rare (less than 1%) with high-quality pellet methods like EvexiPEL®.

What are hormone pellets made of?

The pellets are made of bioidentical, plant-derived hormones (such as estradiol or testosterone) that are molecularly matched to the hormones your body naturally produces. They also include inert binders to hold the pellet together.

How is the pellet insertion done?

The procedure is typically done in about 10–15 minutes in-office. A small area (usually hip or buttock) is numbed with local anesthesia, a tiny incision is made, and the pellet is placed under the skin in the fatty tissue. You’ll be dressed and given aftercare instructions.

How often do I need pellet insertions?

It depends on your metabolism, activity level, and how your body absorbs the hormone. For most women, pellets last about 3 to 5 months; for men, 5 to 7 months is common.

What are the benefits of pellet therapy compared to pills, patches, or creams?

Pellets deliver a steady hormone release—no daily dosing, fewer fluctuations, and greater convenience. They mimic your body’s natural hormonal rhythms better than pills or creams, which often cause peaks and valleys.

What are possible risks and side effects?

While generally mild, side effects may include:

  • Minor bleeding, bruising, or discoloration at the insertion site
  • Pellet extrusion (rare)
  • Skin irritation or soreness
  • Hormonal adjustment symptoms (acne, hair changes, mood shifts)
Most of these resolve with time or minor management.
Is the pellet procedure FDA-approved?

The individual hormones used (e.g. estradiol, testosterone) are FDA-approved. However, the pellet insertion method (the surgical procedure) as a delivery device is not specifically FDA-approved because it involves compounding and individualized use.

Do women need testosterone therapy?

Yes. Women naturally produce testosterone (in ovaries and adrenal glands). As levels drop with age or other factors, symptoms like low libido, mental fog, muscle weakness, and weight gain may appear. Testosterone pellets can restore balance safely under medical supervision.

Is pellet therapy right for everyone?

Pellet therapy isn’t suitable for all. Patients with certain cancers, uncontrolled cardiovascular disease, or contraindications may be excluded. Your provider will review your medical history, labs, and risk before recommending it.

How long do pellets last?

For women, pellets typically release hormones for 3–5 months, while for men, they last about 4–6 months, depending on individual needs and absorption rates.

How long Will I feel results immediately?do pellets last?

Some clients notice improvements in mood, energy, and libido within 7–10 days. However, the full range of benefits usually becomes noticeable within 2–4 weeks.

Can I stop therapy anytime?

Yes. Pellet therapy is completely optional, and you can discontinue at any time under medical supervision. However, many clients choose to continue because of the significant improvement in quality of life.

Is the procedure painful?

Pellet insertion is a quick, in-office procedure performed under local anesthesia. Most clients report only minor pressure or discomfort at the insertion site, which resolves quickly.

Is follow-up required?

Yes. To ensure safety and effectiveness, we require regular lab testing and follow-up visits. These allow us to adjust dosing if needed and maintain optimal balance.
